HIGHLY CONFORMAL GEARING: KINEMATICS and GEOMETRY covers gear systems featuring convex-to-concave type of contact between tooth flanks of the gear and the mating pinion. This approach allows for improvement in contact strength of the gear teeth, increased power density and weight reduction. Conditions to transmit a rotation smoothly are covered, and mistakes in earlier gearing approaches are eliminated in conformal/high-conformal gearings. Conformal and high-conformal gearings represent examples of geometrically accurate (ideal) gearings. Under equal rest of the conditions, high-conformal gearing allows for the highest power density, lowest possible weight, and highest contact strength.
