This book focuses on Israel's history of counterinsurgency since its independence. It examines the range of measures adopted by Israel to fight virtually every type of resistance fighter, from administrative detention and hostage rescue missions to aggressive interrogation measures and targeted killings of enemies. It discusses Israel's successes and failures in fighting resistors, particularly in dealing with groups such as Hamas, Hizballah, Yasir Arafat's Fatah, and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. The book investigates Israeli counterinsurgency from the creation of the Israeli state in 1948 to the Oslo peace talks in 1993. Finally, it considers some important lessons that can be drawn from Israel's counterinsurgency by other countries such as the United States: lessons from Israeli occupiers and torturers to other abusers of power.
